Ethan Ruan and Chen Qiao En “goes to bed again”, netizens criticize

Ever since Ethan Ruan and Chen Qiao En “sleep” up the ratings in TTV/SETTV’s “Fated To Love You”, the production unit redoubled their efforts and continues to let the two of them have a bed scene on a haystack. But some netizens object and feel that if a television station keeps on promoting “bed scene”, it’s an “insult” to the matured female audience. The promotion method becomes the subject of discussion at the official website’s forum.

“Fated To Love You” shot to the top of the ratings when it aired and even broke idol drama records. In the beginning, the television station put the focus of the promotion on Chen Qiao En and Ethan Ruan’s bed scene. Worried that the bed scene is not satisfying enough, the director even re-film the scene. The whole bed scene was 10 minutes long. But recently many netizens commented on SET’s forum that the biggest reason for the success of this drama is due to the storyline, the acting of the main and supporting leads and the production team’s attentions to details, so the focus should not be put on the “bed scene”.

Netizen SNOW855 also said: “This is a drama that targets female, even my mom will watch it and feels that the drama is very funny. The matured females definitely did not watch it because of the bed scene.”

Even though the opinions on the bed scene differ, the main scene in the third episode is still Chen Qiao En and Ethan Ruan’s “bed scene” but the bed has been changed to a haystack. The drama team went to Yilan for this scene and found an old courtyard home’s warehouse to film it. The two of them lied down for more than four hours to complete this scene. Regarding the netizen’s wish that this drama will not become a porn show, Ethan Ruan explained: “This scene is crucial because it brings out our mutual liking and dilemma and Xin Yi reaches a decision on the baby in her stomach. We did not roll around in the haystack, so there’s no need to worry.”

SET also assert that the bed scene in the first episode in the most important in the drama. Chen Qiao En’s pregnancy is intertwined with the fate of her with Ethan Ruan, Bianca Bai and Baron Chen. The production unit expressed that the drama will be going to Shanghai for filming. In the future, Chen Qiao En’s life will undergo a huge change because of the Baron Chen’s involvement.

Glad that SET is finally taking note of the fans' complaints. But there are some inaccuracies in the news article:

The episode which reaches the top of the rating is the second episode, which does not have any bed scene.

I've been following the discussions on the official forum and I did not see anyone complaining about the haystack scene? Everyone think that it's sweet from the previews. Their complaints were about the news over-focus on the bed scene and on Ethan Ruan's baring his body.

Looks like SET is still using "bed scene" to promote the drama, albeit in a twisted manner.
